Starting a new semester is like starting a brand-new year – most of you may have a list of your own new-semester resolutions done!

Knowing how to start a semester can be one of the ultimate skills a student can learn and will give long-lasting effects. Not only it will motivate you beat the new semester more than you did in the last one, but it will eventually transform you in becoming a productive student by balancing these new goals with a busy semester.

So just what needs to be prioritized the most?

Plan your semester

Get yourself a planner! Between classes, extra-curricular activities and assignments, a daily schedule will help keep you on track.  And for good reason, having a planner is a great way to de-stress.

Seeing your week, months and year laid out in front of you can put your time into perspective. Write down even the little things and celebrate your accomplishments when you get to cross them off your to-do list.

Strategize your financial

Important note: If you fail to strategically plan your financial situation you won’t be able to complete your semester.

Be sure to put your financial in order when the semester begin and that they will still be that way as you head towards final week.

Extra-curricular involvement

Get yourself out there by joining a club or society, volunteer in some movements or any extra activities in campus.

Be involved in something other than your classes all day long – it keeps your brain (and personal life!) balanced. Soon, these experiences will increase your chance of being employed!

Study early

Do yourself a favour and start studying for exams a week in advance. That way you can study for thirty minutes a day and be prepared by the time your exam rolls around.

Don’t overwork yourself for a fleeting position or class. Your body will be around for much longer than either of those things, so take care of it both mentally and physically.

Stock up new essentials

Nothing feels better than starting fresh with new stationary supplies. This will do wonders for your state of mind entering a new semester!

Invest in the essentials; notebooks, binders, folders, pencils and pens, highlighters and a pencil case. Just like how having a cute water bottle makes you want to use it more often, having eye-catching supplies will help you stay interested and organized in your classes.

Getting back into the University flow can take some time and patience, especially after a much-needed long break. What works for some students doesn't work for all students, but with these tips, you'll be on track to your best semester yet. Good luck and welcome back #MSUrians!  We look forward to seeing your #go2MSU moments online!
