The Management and Science University places a strong emphasis on cultivating graduates who are balanced, holistic, and well-rounded. One of the numerous efforts to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience is the Personal Enrichment Competency (PEC) subject.
An extensive course dedicated to balancing intellectual capacity and interpersonal capability, PEC programmes are instrumental for both academic requisites and personal welfare among the students. Undertaken in two semesters per year, thousands of students venture beyond theories learnt in the classroom.
Through the joint effort of the Centre for Fundamental Studies and Academic Office, the seventh edition of the MSU PEC Carnival 2024 serves as the culminating event for the 14-week programme. The September 2024 academic session included 7,443 students and 145 trainers across seven faculties and schools.
The PEC for the semester featured diverse and innovative major projects across 20 programmes, concentrating on cultural heritage. They are:
Malaysian traditional house 3D Model (Thinking Skills), board games design with traditional culture (Critical Thinking Skills), short films (Creative Thinking Skills), campaigns themed “The Craft Preservation” (Communication Skills), talk show on “The Craft Preservation” (Oral Communication Skills), poem on Malaysian culture (Written Communication Skills), traditional event management (Management Skills), talk/forum management (Ethics & Values in Interprofessional Education), traditional fashion show (Teamwork Skills), fashion show (Interprofessional Teamwork Skills), team building (Leadership Skills), international dance (Interprofessional Leadership Skills), carnival on commerce for traditional items (Entrepreneurship Skills), video documentation of traditional kuih (Information Technology Skills), creative movement competition (Wellness Management), skill test (Court Games), heritage & halal exhibition (Halal Fundamentals), and traditional values & heritage magazines (Sustainable Development Goals).
Dato’ Rosli Yusof, the Senior Vice President for Endowment & Communication, launched the carnival in the Chancellor Hall of the main campus (Shah Alam) and awarded prizes to the winners of the best project from each PEC programme.
Also in attendance were Professor Datin Dr. Norhisham Mohamad, the Vice President for Academic; Tanty Haryanti Tajudin, Director of Centre of Fundamental Studies; and the senior management team of MSU.
