Fashion is a form of self-expression and a reflection of lifestyle, balancing personal values with contemporary style. Modest fashion, in particular, has won popularity among the fashion connoisseurs; it appeals to everyone and thrives on inclusivity.
The School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) embraces every opportunity to showcase its wealth of creative work. On November 21, Management and Science University (MSU) witnessed Modest Selangor Runway 2024 in conjunction with MSU Fashion Week.
An overlap between modest fashion and the sustainability movement, emphasising eternal, durable pieces, MSU Modest Selangor Runway stands as a testament to the aspiring designers’ dedication to preserving and reviving Malaysian heritage.
Carrying the theme of Championing Heritage & Cultural Appreciation, the runway featured a unique showcase inspired by the rich heritage of Malaysia’s 14 states, celebrating unity in diversity, artistic skills, and design brilliance of five final-year projects (Bachelor in Fashion Design with Marketing) and Fashion Design Realisation (Diploma in Fashion Design) students.
Twelve designers contributed one garment each to the menswear collection.
Each of the 17 designers in the womenswear collection presented a unique garment.
The runway also included four designers from UEDA College of Fashion, who presented 10 garments as part of the MSU X UEDA Gakuen Collection 2024. The collection embodied the theme of cultural representation in Japan.
Additionally, the runway showcased the MSU HIJAB X MSU Alumni collection. The 10 abayas, designed by alumnus Abdullah Iqbal, were perfectly complemented by hijabs created by nine designers from the School.
