In conjunction with the MSU Accounting Students Convention (MASCon) 2024, helmed by the Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP), Management and Science University (MSU) invited Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Muhammad Ibrahim for another edition of the Global Talk Series.
Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Muhammad Ibrahim served as the eighth Governor of the Central Bank and was the Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee, the Financial Stability Committee, and the Financial Stability Executive Committee. His career reflects a persistent commitment to asserting monetary and financial stability, advancing financial inclusion, expanding Islamic finance, modernising financial markets and payment systems, and driving innovation across the financial sector.
Professor Muhammad Ibrahim’s session extensively explored the challenges, opportunities, and impacts of financial inclusion on Malaysia’s economy, finance, and accounting sectors.
Malaysia rose to the 18th spot in the 2023 Global Financial Inclusion Index. Currently, over 90% of adults have bank accounts in their possession, with over 80% incorporating digital payments into their daily transactions.
He laid emphasis on the critical role of financial inclusion in alleviating poverty, advancing economic growth, reducing inequality, and promoting greater economic stability. Key strategies highlighted encompassed leveraging fintech and digital innovations, adopting targeted approaches for underserved segments, enhancing financial literacy programs, strengthening the talent pipeline, ensuring government support for digital transformation, and advancing the principles of Islamic finance.
