For Management and Science University (MSU) graduates Adi Putra Zaki Hafiz bin Abdul Kahar and Mohammad Khamal Haqqim bin Abd Ibrahim, their alma mater provided the best foundation to launch their careers and business.

Adi earned his Master in Business Administration (MBA) in 2024, while Khamal graduated in 2021 with a Master in Science (by Research)  Biomedicine majoring in Optometry.

Previously, Adi had already completed a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, and he and Khamal both earned a Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) at MSU.

“I pursued these courses because I needed guidance and knowledge from experienced professors at MSU,” said Adi. “They helped me understand business management in the context of optometry.”

According to them, MSU has one of the best-equipped optometry labs among universities. The latest technology and fully functioning equipment provided a significant advantage in their education. The university also offers comprehensive training, ensuring students are well-prepared for real-world practice.

“The university maintains a balance between academic learning and industry experience, equipping graduates with the skills they need for their careers,” said Khamal. “What I liked most about MSU was its real-world exposure.”

Because of its high-quality equipment and training, MSU graduates are highly sought after by employers in the industry.

Their time at MSU not only gave them technical skills but also shaped their career philosophy as eye care professionals.

Adi recalled a pivotal moment during their studies when a lecturer asked them:

"What kind of optometrist do you want to become? Do you want to work 12-hour shifts in the industry, or do you want flexibility in your career?"

“That question made us think,” Adi said. “We decided to venture into business, but we quickly realised that running a business comes with its own challenges.”

What started as a casual decision turned into a journey of continuous learning. Over time, they accumulated knowledge and experience that shaped their approach to optometry and business.

Together, they founded Quin Optometry, a business that combines retail and clinical services. They specialise in eye examinations and prescription glasses, but what sets them apart is their patient focused approach.

“When patients come to us, they have unique concerns about their vision,” Adi explained. “Our role is to provide personalised solutions rather than simply selling products. We prioritise problem-solving and educating our customers about eye health.”

Optometry is a branch of healthcare, and optometrists play a crucial role as part of the "3Os"—Opticians, Optometrists, and Ophthalmologists. Their primary focus includes eye health check-ups and technical aspects such as prescribing glasses and contact lenses.

For them, success comes from focus and problem-solving. In life, challenges are inevitable, and you must have the determination to find the right solutions.

“If you don’t know something, don’t guess and research to find the answers,” Adi said

“My advice for success is simple, be as precise as possible in everything you do."
