Can you believe it? After hustling through your final year, with endless hours of studying and hundreds of stay-up-all-nights, you are finally graduating!

Graduation is a time for celebration, but that does not mean you don’t need any preparations before-hand. It is not just about how you look on your ceremony, or deciding who to invite, but think about how to avoid mishaps such as turning up late and what could you do to survive the day feeling good, energized, and (most importantly) camera-ready!

Check out the list of things you should consider:

Parking Spots

With tonnes of parking spaces at campus, you might think there will be ample spots for you. However, with hundreds of students and family members attending the graduation ceremony, it’s likely that they’re all going to want to park in the near vicinity – so there’s a chance that, if you turn up slightly later, you might not find a spot.

Have a look into other travel options, such as public transport or a cab.

Essentials

As with any important event, make sure you have a hearty breakfast before you head off to your graduation ceremony.

During the ceremony, you will need a suitable bag to bring these essentials: Some snacks (strictly no chips! Try the "quiet" snacks like chocolates or gummies), Portable chargers, drinks, extra bobby pins to keep your cap in place and even flats (for ladies, in case your high-heels don't do justice to you).

#OOTD

Have a think about what you’re going to wear to the ceremony. Be sure to dress for the weather as it can get pretty hot under that cap and gown. Consider which shoes you’re going to wear as well – you’ll be walking across the stage in front of a considerable amount of people to collect your certificate.

Avoid dark colours - not only does this absorb the heat, but it may look a little sombre once you add your black graduation gown. Don’t be afraid to be a little over-dressed as the university insists smart attire for the ceremony.

Snap away

Although it’s a good idea to get at least one professional photo of your graduation, take a camera with you to make sure you get plenty of your own snaps. You may try these photoshoot spots:

1) The U-square steps

2) MSU back alley

3) MSU parking lot

4) Islamic Cultural Centre (ICC) stairs

Take photos of everything, including the university, your old accommodation and your closest friends, as, sadly, this could be the last time you see them. Be sure to make plenty of memories before you leave.  And remember, no-one is going to judge you for taking the classic cap-throwing photo!

Make time for your family

As much as this is your big day, remember that your family have also invested a lot of time, emotion and potentially even money into your education, make sure you share the day with them as much as you can, rather than spending the whole time with your friends. Also, if you see Mr. President anywhere, grab the chance to express your gratitude!

And, Finally..

Be social!

If you have the chance, share your #MSUconvo24 moments across your social media channels! Your close friends and relatives might not be able to be there with you on your big day, so be sure to keep them updated with your special day highlights.

Your followers (and maybe other #MSUrians) might also be interested in knowing about your journey throughout your year in MSU. Take this opportunity to share your best learning experience and inspire them with some of your tips to success.
