Clubs and societies

Remember, being actively involved in extra-curricular may help with your employment in the future. Choosing the right university for your course is top priority, but what about the other things it can offer you?

All universities will have clubs and societies, normally run by the students' association, that cover a wide range of interests. Keep an eye out for any that fits you most.

Talk to current students

Most courses will have student representatives at an open day, and they'll be there to talk to potential applicants. So, ask them questions! Find out what they think about the course and maybe ask them what it's like as a student at that particular university, too.

Some questions to ask are:

-     - What has been the best thing about university for you? And the worst?

-     - What is your course like, are you enjoying it?

-     - Are the tutors and lecturers on this course inspirational?

-     - What is the teaching and support like?

-     - Does the local area accommodate for students?

-     - What is the student social scene like?

-     - Are you happy with your accommodation, and how easy was it to secure?

Questions to ask university staff

Lecturers and most of other university staff on ground are there to answer your questions. Don't be afraid to ask! Find out if the course you want to study will include some of your specific interests. Some good questions to ask are:

-     - How much tutor support will I receive?

-     - If I don't meet the grades, is there still a chance I could be offered a place?

-     - What will make me stand out on my application?

-     - Will there be interviews before I am offered a place?

-     - What careers support is there?

-     - Where could my degree lead me, and how will this university help me get there?
