Choosing accountancy

My parents make a living with business. They sometimes talk business at home, exchanging ideas, and I had always been intrigued. Apart from being influenced from their work-related talks and their work etiquette, I think it is in my blood.

I have always loved numbers, and I love managing funds, so I thought accounting is the perfect choice for me. Knowing that this qualification is highly demanded by industries just motivates me even more. It’s a profession with a promising future.

Why MSU?

I did my Diploma in Accountancy at the then PTPL College Kota Bahru. I love my time there as I had a pleasant experience. It was smooth sailing. PTPL is under MSU, and MSU has a great reputation, so when it was time to move on to degree studies, I chose MSU. When people ask me why still MSU, my answer would be, I found the best, why change?

I am now in my final semester, and I still think MSU is the right choice, and I am grateful for this choice.

What about your course that you love?

This course is the stairway to my dream job. That is what I love the most. I am surrounded by hard-working people who hustled to be here, just like I did. My classmates and lecturers are all very determined. Being surrounded by them actually motivates me to do better.

There is another thing about my course that I realized I love when I was undergoing my internship, and that is how much this course has helped me prepare for working life.

Even when I faced hardships during my internship at PricewaterhouseCooper (PWC), my lecturers never failed to guide me or give me useful advice. I am forever grateful to them.

How exactly does BIA prepare you for the working environment?

The curriculum we learn in class at MSU is based on industry requirements. So whatever I learn in class easily applies.

As I have said before, my lecturers help me a lot too. They are the key players to my achievements. They teach me everything I need to know about the working life since they are in the industry, too. They motivate and guide me and all my classmates.

My mentor is also a huge help. Living quite far away from my parents, I depend a lot on her. She is the person I always refer to, for anything. I am very close to her.

How would you sum up your journey in MSU so far?

I feel like 3 years here is not enough. There are so many things I want to be involved in but I just don’t have enough time.

For now, I am in the Young Accountants Club (YAC) as Treasurer. We have a lot of activities coming up.

So many great memories have been created, and useful knowledge and experiences gained. And most importantly, this place has helped me succeed.

What do you hope to achieve for the rest of your study time here?

I currently have a good CGPA so I would love nothing more than to maintain it that way. I am also aiming for the special awards (Chancellor's Gold Medal, President's Award, Mohd Syukri Yajid Outstanding Award, Academic Award) and make my family proud.

I also hope to keep pushing myself beyond my limit in my non-academic achievements. MSU has changed me a lot. I have become more confident and active since I started studying here. But there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Do you have any advice to those still considering pursuing Accountancy at MSU?
