Ramadan, as it is celebrated at Management and Science University (MSU) in 2017

Ramadan at MSU is a time of celebration that brings communities together. From the food to the competitions and community engagements, Ihya’ Ramadan at MSU is a tradition quite unlike any other.

DAILY IFTAR and TARAWIKH
Iftar is the meal you take at breaking of fast. At MSU, Iftar is provided daily for students and staff of the University throughout Ramadan.

As soon as the Maghrib prayer is called at sunset, the fasting congregation gathered at the U-Concourse area (right next to the MSU Islamic Cultural Centre or ICC) will break its fast with a light Iftar of water and dates. Iftar will resume with a full dinner after the congregational Maghrib prayer has been performed at the ICC.

Following the dinner will be the Isya’ and Tarawikh prayers. For the 2017 MSU Ihya’ Ramadan, Tarawikh has been scheduled for up to Friday the 23rd of June.

Guests of honour to the MSU Iftar include MSU Chancellor the Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah, orphans, the authorities, industry, and the media – who also gets a visit by MSU in Sahur @ Media Connect

A special International Iftar will also be held for international MSUrians to share their cultures and customs, as well as an Alumni Iftar as a Ramadan homecoming of sorts.

TADARUS and KHATAM AL-QUR’AN

Tadarus is an hour-long group recital of the Qur’an involving MSU students and members of staff. Taking place at the ICC daily after the Asar prayer, three large groups shall each complete reciting by the end of Ramadan ten juz’ (parts) of the 30-part Al-Qur’an. Completion of recitation of the 30 juz’ will be marked by a Khatam Al-Quran Ceremony

ACTIVITIES AND COMPETITIONS

Aiming to cultivate collegiality between the University’s lecturers and their students, these will take place between 6pm and 7pm daily. Competitions lined up for Ihya’ Ramadan 2017 include Khat CompetitionAcoustica Ramadan and Lens Ramadan. Also look out for the Ramadan Street Melody, a fundraiser busking activity by MSU student clubs and associations in aid of orphans.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS
Ramadan is a season of humility and charity, the perfect time to nurture the University’s Giving and Grateful culture.

The tradition of giving continues with community engagement programs to be held at mosquesschools, and hospitals

ZAKAT FITRAH
MSU is a designated Amil for the Selangor Islamic Council (MAIS).

Payments of the RM7.00 Zakat Fitrah (personal tithe) may be made at the University’s Accounts Department during office hours, or at the ICC an hour before and after the Zohor and Asar prayers daily.
