A truly inclusive community provides every opportunity for full participation by all. At MSU, clubs and associations play important roles in shaping students into holistic, balanced, well-rounded future graduates. Advancing a commitment to broadening opportunity and making Management and Science University a campus for everyone, MSU recently held its first Club Carnival since the MCO began more than a year ago.
A traditional dance show by the Performing Arts and Culture Club (PACC) opened the closing ceremony of the three-day Club Carnival 2021.
The dance and musical form in traditional Malay performing art is a popular entrée welcoming guests at formal as well as informal gatherings such as wedding receptions and other festivities. Originating from the southern Malaysian state of Johor, its heritage traces back to as early as the 14th century. The lively music of the Zapin, played on the gambus, the accordion, the violin, the marwas (bongo), the rebana, and sometimes the kompang (small hand drum) set the tone for a merry afternoon.
Wishing on all present a happier 2021, MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid in his closing remarks called on the students to choose caution over paranoia and to move beyond physical presence to reflect current circumstances. Safety remains a primary concern, he said, thus Social Media engagement of new members to the over forty clubs and associations is encouraged.
“It may be a challenge to your creativity and innovation, but that is the essence to character building,” said Professor Tan Sri Dr Shukri.
Currently on the Clubs and Associations register are six clusters comprising Art and Culture, Martial Arts, Outdoor and Recreation, Sports, Humanitarian, and Uniformed activities. Club Carnival is organized yearly by MSU’s Student and Career Development (SCD) Department and Student Representatives Council (SRC).
Making an entrance at the MSU Club Carnival 2021 was the MSU Cycling Club with its goal of cultivating a campus culture for sustainable carbon footprinting.
Management and Science University (MSU) recently received a Diamond-2 rating by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) of Malaysia.
MSU Club Carnival 2021 presented two donations to MSU Foundation (YMSU) to the tune of RM2,000 and RM800; respectively made by the SRC with the Clubs and Associations, as well as the Management and Science University (MSU) International Medical School (IMS) Association (IMSA).
