At Management and Science University (MSU), sports and leadership are co-curricular to a holistic learning experience. MSU presented the President’s Appreciation Awards for Leadership and Sportsmanship (PALS) to a hundred and twenty-nine MSUrians end February.

 

Two categories of awards were presented, with four from MSU’s Student Representative Council (SRC) receiving the Recognition Award and 125 from various academic programmes receiving the Achievement Award. SRC members received a Certificate of Appreciation each.

 

 

The four whose award includes leadership training or a summer camp are SRC Vice-President Mohd Sufyan Shamsir from Bachelor in International Business (Honours), Treasurer Chern Yun Pei from Bachelor in International Business (Honours), Activity Exco Mathavan Thiyagarajah from Bachelor in Education (Physical Education and Health) (Hons), and Ethics and Moral Exco Luqman Jamal from Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

 

Among the notable recipients of the Achievement Award is Siti Zulaikha Ismail from Bachelor of Counselling and Guidance (Honours), who won the Doubles gold, the Team gold, and the All-Events silver at the Malaysia Education Institution Sports meet SIPMA in 2019. Joining her for the Team Gold is Muhammad Haikal Naim Hashim from Bachelor in International Business (Honours). SIPMA 2019 also brought in two bronze to MSU through football and hockey.  

 

Another notable recipient of the Achievement Award is Muhammad Syakir Abd Halek from Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), who won a Regu gold at the University of Malaya (UM) International Open Silat Championship with partners Ikram Hamidi Muhiyidin from Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) and Ahmad Syafiq Hakimi Muhamad Arifin from Diploma in Physiotherapy. The MSU Silat team scored three gold, five silver, and three bronze medals at the UM championship.  

 

 

In taekwondo, MSU managed two gold, three silver, and four bronze medals at Taylor’s 1st International Invitational Taekwondo Championship (TIITC) 2019 and one gold plus two bronze medals from the Putrajaya Taekwondo Championship (PTC) 2019. The three gold medals came through Dhivagar Subramaniam from Diploma in Outdoor Recreation and Lavinnia Subramaniam from Bachelor in Accountancy (Honours) at TIITC as well as Hasan Al-Banna Mohd Husni from Bachelor of Counselling and Guidance (Honours) at PTC.

 

 

Another gold to MSU through sports had come from Women’s Javelin at the MASISWA Athletics Championship 2019, brought in by Nur Athirah Bakti from Diploma in Outdoor Recreation. The rest of the MSU athletics team bagged three silver medals (Women’s Shotput, Women’s Discus, Men’s 4x400m) and three bronze medals (Women’s Javelin, Men’s Shotput, Women’s 4x400m).

 

 

MSU also bagged a silver in 10m Shooting and a bronze for Air Pistol, both gained at the Higher Education Institution (IPT) Championship 2019 through Nigel Rabindra Ramakrishnan from Diploma in Investment Management.

 

Also sweeping up silver is the MASISWA 2019 football team, while the IPT Football League 2019 team placed 4th.

 

 

MSU’s netball team emerged the MASISWA Netball Championship (KBJM) Overall Champion 2019 while its futsal team qualified for the IPT Premier League 2020.
