From the ceremonial to the candid, the three sessions of the recent graduation day were filled with scenes that epitomize Convocation.

As members of the MSU graduating class took their first steps into the future, never was forgotten who the day was ultimately for — the 1,769 graduates, whose two-and-a-half, three-and-a-half, or five years of study and sacrifices now led them to the graduation cap and gown.

Amid the jubilance buzzing throughout campus, among the revelries and accomplishments, were the claps and standing ovations, in appreciation as well as encouragement, accompanying moments of warmth brought about by words well-said in speeches and valedictories at the MSU Class of 2020 Convocation.

MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid delivered a message on success.

“Quality education is a principle close to our heart. We want you to transform around the pillars of quality. We participated in so many benchmarking exercises to ensure we are on par with excellence. We sent you to more than 150 mobility partner institutions around the globe to build you into holistic, balanced, well-rounded, competitive graduates; superb in your technical abilities, yet rooted in heritage. Success should be in the values you build around the piece of paper that is your degree or diploma certificate. Define your success beyond the campus and beyond great.”

The upholding of trust was the focus of MSU Pro-Chancellor Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid Mohd Noordin.

For contributing to their success, multi-lingual valedictorian Goh Wen Jian, Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) and Mohd Shukri Yajid Outstanding Award recipient, thanked and congratulated all the parents present – in three languages.

“A thousand thanks to all our parents for raising and guiding us. Our success is also yours. We promise to keep shining and being successful.”

Chancellor Gold Medal Award recipient Bachelor in Education (Honours) – TESL Aleaa Nur Insyirah Dr Haji Alias, who had just returned from her Young Women Leadership Programme on the MSU Global Mobility Programme (GMP) to Japan, chose her newly acquired Japanese into which to translate a heartfelt message.

“MSU is so close to my heart. It is the reason for my success. The lecturers and fellow peers here are so helpful. I learned a lot from the celestial journey I had at MSU. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tan Sri President and Puan Sri Vice-Chancellor for all their guidance and help in making me the person I am today. Not to forget, my mentor, lecturers and friends are also important to me. I am ever so grateful to them and MSU. Thank you so much for all the great opportunities you allowed me to experience. I will forever be an MSUrian.”
