GEmS or Graduate Employability Skills is an avenue for MSUrians to increase their job-marketability by developing the all-important soft skills required by employers today.
GEmS Night is an annual event organized by MSU’s Student Representatives Council (SRC) in collaboration with MSU’s Student and Career Development (SCD) Department to celebrate individual as well as collective achievements of the fifty-five student clubs and associations across MSU, MSU Colleges, and MSU Alumni Association.
This year, the theme of Superheroes was chosen in a nod to the unsung heroes behind GEmS’ myriad activities.
Song and dance performances throughout GEmS Night 2019 made it a memorable occasion for all attending.
Among the highlights of GEmS Night was the honourands list, headed by the MSU Young Leadership Award and the Hibiscus Award for Team of The Year.
Appreciation awards were also presented for the Highest Achievement in Competition, the Highest Achievement in Sport, the Best Global Leadership Programme, the Best Community Engagement, the Best Entrepreneurial Effort, and the Best Social Media Effort.
The awards list continued with The Most Active Academic Club, The Most Active Non-Academic Club, The Most Active Individual in GEmS, and Outstanding International Students.
MSU’s Student and Career Development (SCD) Department bagged the most number of awards, followed closely by students from the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE).
Two from MSU College Sabah and MSU College Sarawak respectively clinched Best Entrepreneurial Project and the MSU Young Leadership Award.
Lucky draws as well as announcements for Hero and Heroine of the Night completed the celebration’s festivities.
In the spirit of MSU’s 2G culture of Giving and Grateful, proceeds from GEmS Night 2019 were presented as a contribution to MSU Foundation by SRC 2018/2019 president Goh Wen Jian.
MSU president, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, reminded all present that GEmS is all about developing a more competitive graduate.
“Whatever degree you are going to get at the end of your studies here, it is what you build around it that will matter the most. In this time of IR 4.0, the future is digital literacy in the 3As of Big Data – Algorithm, AI, Analytics. You must have creative as well as critical thinking; and be innovative, collaborative, as well as entrepreneurial; a holistic, balanced, well-rounded graduate.”
