Management and Science University (MSU) through the MSU Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) has held the second edition of its International Conference on Occupational Safety and Environmental Health (iCOSHE) this August 2021.

 

 

Themed ‘Pandemic Resurgence: Empowering Roles of Occupational Safety and Environmental Health’, iCOSHE 2.0 presented two plenary lectures and one keynote lecture; respectively on ‘COVID-19 Crisis: Challenges and Opportunities in OSHE Fields’, Emerging Trends in Occupational Health and Safety’, and Tackling Indoor Air Quality in a Pandemic Resurgence’.

 

Delivering the first plenary lecture and the keynote lecture respectively were Dr Subramaniam Karuppanan of SRIM Global Consult and Professor Jacques Oosthuizen of Occupational and Environmental Health at Edith Cowan University in Australia.

 

The second plenary lecture was delivered by Professor Dr Juliana Jalaludin from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

 

An e-poster competition saw five of the eight prizes contested go to students and researchers from MSU’s FHLS.

 

Winning the Most Creative Poster prize with their ‘Prevalence of Cutaneous and Subcutaneous Mycoses among Agriculture Workers in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan’ were Noor Azimah Ahmad, Nabilah Mohd Idrus, and Nur Amalina Kamaruddin.

 

Both prizes in the Environmental Health category also went to MSUrians.

 

‘A Preliminary Finding on Deterioration of Indoor Air Quality in the Anatomy Dissection Hall’ by Dr Nor Ashikin Sopian won in the Researcher Category, whilst ‘Water Pollutions: How Different Types of Workplaces Are Affected and How It Is Reduced’ by Chiew Joshun, Zachary Raj, and Nazifah Jainar won in the Student category.

 

 

Two more prizes to MSUrians from FHLS were bagged in the Occupational Health and Public Health categories.

Winning in the Researcher Category for Occupational Health was ‘Evaluating Visual Risk Factor in Driving Problem among Older Drivers in Malaysia’ by Dhanarasi Thiagarajoo and Baqiatu'l Sabiqi Assfi Rahmat.

 

 

‘Knowledge, Attitude and Perceptions towards COVID-19 Vaccinations among Residents in Selangor’ by Mohd Nazrul Azham Rosdi and Roshusnul Naimah Abu Bakar took away the prize in the Public Health, Student Category.

 

 

Winner in the Public Health, Researcher Category was ‘Functional Annotation and Structure Prediction of Virulent Hypothetical Proteins in Clostridium botulinum A ATCC 3502 by in silico approach’; from Saveetha School of Engineering at SIMATS Deemed University, India.

 

‘Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) Among Baristas (Coffeehouse Employees) in Shah Alam: Prevalence and Repetition Factor’ from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Selangor (UNISEL), Malaysia won in the Occupational Health, Student Category.

 

The prize for the Most Impactful Research went to ‘A Study on Noise Exposure and Hearing Status among Construction Workers’; by Dr Normah Awang, Mohammed Fitri Takri, Wan Shafira Ishak, and Nurul Farahana Kamaludin from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia.
