Management and Science University (MSU) witnessed the 23rd edition of the International Medical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical and Health Science Symposium (iMPaCHS) on February 19.
The medical and health sciences clusters, namely the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), the International Medical School (IMS), and the School of Pharmacy (SPH), helm the symposium twice a year. It brings together MSU students, local, and international researchers to share innovative ideas, practices, and research findings.
Anchored by the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, the first instalment of the biannual programme for the year featured 247 local and 37 international participants, with 86 of them selected to exhibit at the symposium—26 oral, 50 posters, and 10 e-posters. Among them were 52 final-year project students from FHLS (27), IMS (15), and SPH (10).
The 23rd iMPaCHS attracted international participants from partner universities, including Airlangga University, Aisyah Pringsewu University, Universitas Islam Malang, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya, Health Ministry Polytechnic of Padang, Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar, Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya, and Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta.
Participation was also recorded from local public universities, comprising Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
The keynote lecture was delivered by Associate Professor Gs. Ts. Dr. Sharifah Norkhadijah Syed Ismail, the Head of the Department of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Putra Malaysia.
Professor Puan Sri Dato’ Dr. Junainah Abd Hamid, MSU Vice-Chancellor, conferred prizes to presenters in eight categories. She urged the participants to use symposiums like this as a platform to enhance their problem-solving abilities and strive for continued excellence. She added that research is a fundamental skill that everyone in higher education should possess, as it is an aspect of lifelong learning.
Nur Zulaikha Azwan from the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Hons) programme at FHLS won the Junainah Abdul Hamid Merit Award for her presentation titled Morphologic and Morphometric Analysis of the Nerve Degeneration in Sciatic Nerve Crush Injury in Rats.
(1) Putri Nur Syafika Mohd Fadzil from the Bachelor in Cardiovascular Technology (Honours) programme at FHLS for Rheumatic Heart Disease: A Case Study Review of Valvular Lesions Using Echocardiography; (2) Muhammad Makinudin Mohd Tajudin from the Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) programme at IMS for Association Between Knowledge, Awareness, and Attitude on Post COVID-19 Syndrome Amongst Malaysian Population in Klang Valley; and (3) Divya Solai Rajan from the Bachelor in Nutrition (Honours) programme at FHLS for Family Meals and Its Association with Nutritional and Emotional Wellbeing Among Parents in Klang Valley, secured first, second, and third places, respectively, in the Best Oral Researcher category.

Winning the Best International Research (Oral) category were (1) Hisyam Syafi'ie from Poltekes Kemenkes Surakarta, Indonesia for Enhancing Endurance: The Influence of Calf Compression Steeves on Fatigue and Performance and (2) Ni Made Dwi Mahayati from Poltekes Kemenkes Denpasar, Indonesia for Effect of Baby Massage with Vanilla Aromatherapy Oil on Sleep Quality in Infants Aged 3-12 Months Post-Immunisation: A One-Group Pretest-Post-test Study.

Best Local Researcher (poster) went to (1) Dr. Shalinawati Ramli from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) for Empowering Teachers: Enhancing Dyslexia Awareness for A Healthier Educational Future and (2) Prof Madya Dr. Shahlan Surat from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for Social Media Addiction and Emotional Intelligence Among Primary School Students in Selangor.
(1) Muhammad Syaifuddin from Poltekkes Kemenkes Surakarta, Indonesia for Effectiveness of Using Rigid Medial Arch Support and Flexible Medial Arch Support on The Incidence of Foot Pain in The Security Unit of Polytechnic of Health Sciences Surakarta and (2) Septiana Laksmi Ramayani from Health Polytechnic Surakarta Health Ministry, Indonesia for Formulation and Stability Evaluation of Nutraceutical Gummy Candies from Beetroot Juice (Beta vulgaris) as a Supplement for Anemia, were selected for the Best International Researcher (poster) awards.
Earning the Best International Researcher (e-poster) awards were (1) Shafa Nurdiana from Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya, Indonesia; (2) Nizam Baharom from Public Health Unit, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM); (3) Elih Sayuti from Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia; and (4) Sari Adlinda from Health Ministry Polytechnic of Padang.
The conference also featured the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between four new industry partners: Arcadia Life Sciences, Columbia Asia Hospital Cheras, Eurofins Mediscan Laboratories SB, and Free Tree Society.
