The Chinese Culture Society (CCS) collaborated with the Students and Career Development (SCD) to commemorate the Lunar New Year on February 19.

Celebrated at the Chancellor Hall of Management and Science University (MSU), the Year of the Snake—sixth in the twelve-year animal cycle—was welcomed by thousands of local and international students. The commemoration was also attended virtually by MSU colleges across Malaysia and Henan University of Chinese Medicine.

Present at the ceremony were Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, the President and Founder of MSU; Professor Puan Sri Dato’ Dr. Junainah Abd Hamid, the Vice-Chancellor of MSU; and the senior management team of MSU.

“Today, we celebrate the spirit of the snake, which symbolises wisdom, transformation, and resilience. As members of the MSUrians community, we embrace strong cultural values that emphasise respect for others and collaboration to foster a sense of togetherness that we nurture. By working as a team, we create the right ecosystem within the University. This commitment allows us to preserve our culture and traditions among students and staff, while instilling a spirit of competitiveness on an international level,” stated Professor Dr. Mohd Shukri in his officiating speech.

The traditional Yee Sang tossing took place after the President’s speech, allowing attendees to engage in the custom. Vibrant performances by both in-house and external talents, such as lion and dragon dances and drum performances, enhanced the authenticity of the celebration.

Before the celebration, CCS organised several interactive activities, including the Snake Prosperity Ladder, Snake Egg Challenge, Where’s the Ong?, Pick-Up Stick, CAPTEH, and Chopstick Rider.
