Management and Science University (MSU) held a virtual edition of its 17th International Medical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical and Health Science (iMPaCHS) Symposium on the Monday of 17th January this year.

 

 

Organized by MSU’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), School of Pharmacy (SPH), and International Medical School (IMS), it opened with a keynote lecture on the challenges in estimating body composition during a pandemic; delivered by Kagawa Nutrition University Institute of Nutrition Sciences Deputy Director, Associate Professor Dr Masaharu Kagawa in Japan.

 

An industry engagement session with sponsorship partners preceded the opening of Symposium 1, which presented the ‘Development of Malaysian Orang Asli Coping Strategy (MORACS) scale to measure household food insecurity among Orang Asli in Peninsular Malaysia’ by Universiti Putra Malaysia.

 

The ‘Impact of COVID-19 crisis on work, private life, mental health well-being and quality of life’ was delivered by MSU Faculty of Life and Sciences (FHLS) Dean in Symposium 2.

 

Achieving work-life balance with regards to Covid-19 as a syndemic was delivered by MSU Clinical Centre of Excellence (MyCell) Director in Symposium 3.

 

The seventeenth iMPaCHS presented two awards to fourteen recipients.

 

The coveted MSU Vice-Chancellor Junainah Abdul Hamid Award went to Juwita Junit from Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) for her behavioural study on the effects of Nevgro Forte in treating depression in rat models induced with chronic mild stress.

 

In first place for the Best Research e-Poster Award is Iffa Nadia Mokhtar from Bachelor in Nutrition (Hons), who researched the association of socio-demographic and lifestyle changes with body weight status during the COVID-19 pandemic among university students in the state of Selangor’s city of Shah Alam.

 

In second place is Nisha Shahrawi from Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) with her analysis of seafood oil extracts and multivariate data for halal authentication.

 

Taking third place is Nurin Syahirah Shuhaimi from Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Hons), who presented her findings in the knowledge, attitude, and practice among Selangor’s healthcare students with regards to the spontaneous reporting system in Malaysia. 

 

 

Other winners comprised nine from MSU and one from UCSI. They are;

 

Kenneth Lim Liang Huong from MSU’s Bachelor in Cardiovascular Technology (Hons) programme, who presented the relationship between anxiety and cardiovascular disease among Shah Alam youths;

 

Amera Shahera Mohamad Shahran from MSU’s Bachelor in Food Service Technology (Hons) programme, with her findings on knowledge, attitude, and trust on halal food products and their associations with purchasing decisions among non-Muslim consumers;

 

Nor Lyiana Atiqah Azmi from MSU’s Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) programme, who researched the effect of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic towards binocular vision dysfunction among primary school children in Shah Alam;

 

Kang Soon Nan from MSU’s Bachelor in Bioinformatics (Hons) programme, for his work on network pharmacology and identification of natural novel drug target for SARS-COV-2;

 

Aruna Duraisingam from MSU’s Bachelor in Forensic Science (Hons) programme, for her forensic analysis of vermilion (Sindoor) through Attenuated Total Reflection – Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) with Chemometric Technique;

 

Govind Lakshana Aarthyshree Sankar from MSU’s Bachelor in Forensic Science (Hons) programme, for her forensic analysis of printed document through Attenuated Total Reflection – Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) with Chemometric Technique;

 

Eqlima Ernie Syafiqa Suffian from MSU’s Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) programme, for her development of multiplex primers for Edna meta-coding to detect waterborne bacteria;

 

Sharlini Seeva Sangar from MSU’s Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Hons) programme, for her research into the effect of cinnamon on histological changes to the kidneys and livers of diabetes-induced rats;

 

Nur Azizah Asbudi from MSU’s Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) programme, who studied the effectiveness of Clitoria ternatea (butterfly pea or bunga telang) aqueous extract in zebrafish induced with Rotenone (insecticide/herbicide) as a Parkinson’s Disease model;

 

and Alolikia Pujue Ong from UCSI, who did a case study on the relationship between barriers of salt reduction and salt intake among B40 households.
