Amidst their celebratory spirit and excitement for the future, the graduating Class of 2024 took a moment to reflect on the loss of a peer who would not get to experience this moment.
A posthumous ceremony was held for one among the 2,253 at the 33rd Convocation Ceremony of Management and Science University (MSU).
Vickniswary Marimuthu, who was expecting to graduate with a Bachelor in Food Service Technology (Hons) from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), passed away on December 24, 2023, from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
The late Vickniswary has battled with kidney complications since 16 years old.
Her quest for knowledge demonstrates the power of perseverance. Despite requiring dialysis and a planned kidney transplant, she continued to envision a future beyond her serious health issues and aspired to pursue a postgraduate degree at MSU.
Vickniswary’s illness tragically cut her life short just two weeks after her internship ended.
The private ceremony, taking place in the Hibiscus Room adjacent to the MSU Chancellor Hall, was attended by the deceased’s mother, Mariamah Subramaniam, and her brother, Balamurugan Marimuthu.
Presenting the degree to the next of kin was Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, President of MSU, witnessed by Professor Puan Sri Datuk Dr. Junainah Abdul Hamid, as well as the senior management team.
Vickniswary embodied the spirit of determination.
Her MSUrian traits are the ones we would remember her by.
