Art and Creativity Among MSU Students: The Inspiring Journey of Azraf Faizz

Azraf Faizz has spent his time at Management and Science University as a passionate and resilient person. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Music Technology from the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts, he seeks to further develop his skills in music production and unleash his true self creatively. With a strong interest in music and the arts, he found MSU's supportive environment ideal for furthering his artistic endeavors. "MSU isn't just a university," he says, "it's a place that pushes you to discover who you are."

Azraf's journey began with an enjoyment of music that grew incrementally into an inner burning fire to make an impact in the music industry. "The courses here offer way more than basic skills; they also encourage critical and innovative thinking," he says.

For Azraf, the art of producing music wasn’t just a hobby—it was a way in which he could express himself. He said, “producing music was something I did for fun, but the more I explored, the more I thought, ‘Why not produce something that’s truly my own?’” This curiosity, combined with MSU’s hands-on approach, helped transform his hobby into a serious pursuit.

He was performing along with his friends Hariz Danial and Zulfitri at the International Music Arts and Culture Convention (IMACC) in May 2023. They turned "7 Nasihat" into an EDM track, rapping over their beats alongside a few talented Istana Budaya artists who blended hip-hop, EDM, beatboxing, opera, and orchestra.

Azraf draws inspiration from numerous genres, which he believes brings freshness and uniqueness to his music. “I love all genres," he says, "each one offers something unique.” It is the diversity that keeps fuelling his creativity to make what he calls "ear candy"—music that captivates listeners long after it ends.

To Azraf, the creative process is detail-orientated, from the inspiration to its actualisation. "The creative process is like a puzzle. Every piece must fit perfectly in order to create something unique," he says.

The supportive friends and mentors at MSU further enriched Azraf's experience. "Here, the lecturers do not merely lecture; they inspire," says Azraf. Along with it came friendships and a relationship with people who nurtured his artistry.

Challenges were also a part of his journey. "There were instances when I suffered creative block," he says, but with the help of tutors and friends, he realised those too were opportunities for growth.

“MSU taught me that challenges aren’t setbacks; they’re part of the journey,” he added.

The practical skills Azraf learnt in music production have been invaluable. “MSU taught me to appreciate the finer points of production.” “Combining that knowledge with my passion has really elevated the quality of my music.” Azraf shares.

Going forward, Azraf sets his bar high: not just being an artist, but a great producer. "I want to be remembered as someone who brought something fresh into the industry," he says. MSU has just prepared him for his career, and he is ready for this leap.

Through Azraf’s story, it’s clear that MSU is beyond a place of learning; it is a place where students are nurtured for the realisation of dreams.
