The participants were given a brief history of the festival of light and its symbolism; the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The festival began with a lighting ceremony with the “kuthu veluku” as a symbol of joy and celebration officiated by Pn Norlina bt Arshad, Director of MLC.

The event started with several dance performances including Kathak, one of the most elegant dance forms of India as it revolves around the concept of storytelling, kolattam stick dance and singing performances by MLC students. To further warm up the atmosphere, a fashion show themed; Style is for now, fashion is forever, was held. The event continued with a gift ceremony for the students who participated in the activities for Special Deepavali such as poster drawing competition, photography competitions and fashion shows.

The ceremony came to an end with a final word from Pn Norlina and a closing speech by Ruoban Joseph, president of the INDESO Club. After the speeches a group photo was taken. A colourful and energetic performance by the club members was done to celebrate the cross cultural among MSUrians. It is hoped that more functions and events involving students, lecturers and staff will be held in the future to provide more cultural experiences and exposure to everyone.
