University’s initiatives for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals recognized in inaugural THE Ranking

Management and Science University (MSU) has been listed among this year’s Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings.
 

MSU ranked 301+ for Times Higher Education university impact ranking 2019



Recognized for its UNSDG initiatives, MSU enters the inaugural THE Ranking at 301+ overall. Management and Science University (MSU) places in the top 200 for its impact on good health and wellbeing, gender equality, and reduced inequalities.  

THE University Impact Rankings measure global universities’ success in delivering United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) through research, outreach, and stewardship. Measured on the inaugural THE ranking of 2019 were eleven of the seventeen UNSDGs; among which, health and wellbeing, quality education, and climate action.   
 

Solutions for a sustainable world  
 

MSU’s UNSDG programmes include ECHO, COVR, and MESP.

ECHO or Embracing Community Healthcare Outreach is a holistic social development initiative encompassing community healthcare as well as environmental sustainability. Programmes under the ECHO banner include Effective First Aid Training for local indigenous people; River Revival for water quality improvement to the Damansara river behind MSU’s Shah Alam Section 13 campus; and My Coral, a knowledge transfer programme to boost marine life and ecosystem in Malaysia’s Redang Island. My Coral has progressed to its third edition since its 2016 launch.



 

COVR or Congress of Optometry and Vision Research is a sharing platform facilitating exchange of scientific knowledge and practices as well as ideas and research findings. Initiated from the MSU Optometry and Vision Science Exhibition and Seminar (MOVES) series, COVR’s aim for quality education in visual science simultaneously supports United Nations Sustainability Development Goals for health and wellbeing. 


MESP is the MSU Environmental Sustainability Programme launched in celebration of the International Day of Forests 2019. Themed ‘Nature Appreciation’, it kick-started the MSU My Mountain Project, a five-year adoption of Gunung Nuang in Selangor’s Lipur forest with a Care, Cure, Conserve focus.
 

MSU’s first cross-border UNSDG programme beyond Malaysia is mangrove conservation in the Indonesian city of Surabaya.
 

Research with social impact


The university’s efforts in research have always emphasized innovations for a better world. Its core research areas are multi-disciplinary and include halal as well as natural products. Two of MSU’s natural products from the university’s research labs have won at least three gold medals between them.

MSU is the 2018 host of PERINTIS, the Invention and Innovation competition for Private Institutions of Higher Education.  

MSU’s own goal for equitable health led to the launch of the international Migrant Workers Health Congress (MigWHealth) in 2018.

MSU is an applied, enterprise university focused on graduate employability. Almost 99% of its graduates successfully secure employment within six months of their graduation, leading to MSU’s ranking by the Ministry of Education (MoE) as Malaysia’s #1 for graduate employability.

MSU had received the ASIC double awards of Excellence in Quality International Education and Outstanding  Contribution to International Education.  

Along with the Global TVET Model University award, MSU has been granted ASIQUAL Validated Award Centre Status for the provision of ASIQUAL Validated Programmes and Recognised Centre Status with ASIQUAL for the provision of ASIQUAL qualifications.  





MSU International Medical School Bangalore campus is Malaysia's first offshore medical school granted the full 5-year accreditation by the Malaysian Medical Council, and MSU Medical Centre is the country's first private teaching hospital.
