Book series, online CPD content simultaneously launched with Asia's-first Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy by Management and Science University (MSU)

Management and Science University (MSU) presented a book series and an online CPD content at the launch of its inaugural Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy.

Jointly organized by the School of Pharmacy (SPH) with MSU’s training arm the Continuing and Extended Education Centre (CEdEC), the Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy is also the first of its kind in Asia. 

The book series “What You Should Know About” is a collaboration with University of Science Malaysia (USM). The seven-title series presents the subjects Thalassemia, Osteoporosis, Obesity, Alzheimer’s Disease, Understanding Generic Medicines, Adverse Drug Reactions, and Safe Disposal of Medicines.

MSU’s CPD content “Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) in Dispensing” is now app-enabled via the University’s collaboration with SwipeRx. A consolidated channel for the largest digital community of pharmacy professionals in Asia, the pharmacy-practice mobile application also hosts accredited continuing professional development (CPD) educational modules recognized by the Philippine Pharmacy Association (PPhA) and Ikatan Apoteker Indonesia (IAI).

Among those in attendance accompanying the Management and Science University (MSU) President at the 3-in-launch were the Vice President for the Medical and Health Sciences Cluster as well as the Deans of the School of Pharmacy (SPH), the International Medical School (IMS), and the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), and also the Senior VP for Research, Innovation, Technology and System.

 

At the 3-in-1 launch of the Management and Science University (MSU) Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy; the MSU President (centre) is flanked by the Senior VP for Research, Innovation, Technology and System on his right as well as the Deans of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) and the International Medical School (IMS); and by the Dean of MSU’s School of Pharmacy (SPH) on his left as well as the Principal of the Malaysian Academy of Pharmacy and the President of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society.


In his officiating address, MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid lauded collaboration as the way to the university of the future. From SMEs right up to corporations, collaborations embrace diversity in perspectives, with the capacity to spur mobility beyond locality. 

Intellectual mobility is essential at MSU, encouraged among students and faculty as well as staff and facilitated by the University’s Global Mobility Programme (GMP), Global Internship Programme (GIP), and Global Leadership Programme (GLP). Together with the University’s industry-embedded academic programmes of study, collaborations enable the inter-professional education necessary to effectively meet IR4.0 challenges. 

Guest speakers at the Certificate Course in Social and Administrative Pharmacy include the President of the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society, Tuan Haji Amrahi Buang, who delivered his presentation on Social Ethics in Pharmacy; the Head of Partnerships and Alliances at mClinica, Ms Lindsay Nickel, who spoke on Strengthening the Pharmaceutical Practice through Technology, Collaboration, and Education; the Professor of Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the University of Science Malaysia School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Dr Mohamed Azmi Ahmad Hassali, who presented the Contributions of Social Pharmacy towards Quality Use of Medicines; Professor Dr M. Haniki Nik Mohamad from the Malaysian Academy of Pharmacy, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), who presented the Roles of Pharmacist in Smoking Cessation Programme; and Dr Aris Widayati from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Sanata Dharma, Indonesia, who examined the Behaviour Aspects in Adherence to Medication Regimen.

With its “Advancement of Social and Administrative Science Trailblazing Towards Optimum Health Outcome” theme, the MSU Certificate Course in Social Administrative Pharmacy 2018 sought to advance its participants’ knowledge as well as education, across humanistic as well as scientific disciplines, in meeting new pharmaceutical challenges of the healthcare system.

The Management and Science University (MSU) School of Pharmacy (SPH) offers the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours), the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Honours), the Bachelor in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Honours), the Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Diploma in Pharmacy.
