Hi-tea flag-off by President of Management and Science University (MSU) bears message of character building through competitiveness

Management and Science University (MSU) has sent a contingent of over a hundred MSUrians to SUKIPT 2018.

SUKIPT or Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi (Institution of Higher Education Sports) is an initiative by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia in collaboration with MASUM (Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia), MASISWA (Majlis Sukan Institusi Swasta), MASKOM (Majlis Sukan Kolej Komuniti), and MSP (Majlis Sukan Politeknik) to develop students through sports.

The biennial meet which debuted in 2012 alternates with SIPMA or Sukan Institusi Pendidikan Malaysia (Malaysia Education Institution Sports). Its third edition invited international participation from Southeast Asia as well as the disabled. SUKIPT2018 is its fourth edition, hosted by the National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, UKM) in Bangi early February.

At a University hi-tea for the MSU Contingent, Management and Science University (MSU) President, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, remarked that sports is an arena presenting huge potential for personal development. Participation in sports is an amazing opportunity to develop well-roundedness, he said, with focus and resilience being some of the qualities that can be built through its spirit of competitiveness. The contingent was sent off to SUKIPT 2018 accompanied by the MSU President’s words of encouragement about success being achievable in any format and that the willingness to compete is already a winning attribute.

The effort to increase health and life quality among the younger generation also aims to produce thinking athletes through inculcation of the sports culture among students. SUKIPT’s organization by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia is in line with the objectives of the Dasar Pembangunan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi (DSIPT).

SUKIPT2018 sees MSU College joining Management and Science University (MSU) in games comprising athletics, badminton, bowling, chess, karatedo, silat, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo. The Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) leads with Chef-de-Mission Muhammad Anas Che Omar (Bachelor in Psychology with Marketing, BPS) and the most number of athletes, followed closely by the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) and the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE).

Management and Science University (MSU) made a success of a previous participation in SUKMA 2016, winning gold and bronze in judo, silver and bronze in taekwondo, and bronze in silat and table tennis. The University organizes its own Sports United Championship Annual (SUCA) for both students and staff. Management and Science University (MSU) offers the Diploma in Sports Science (DSS) through its Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS).
