Management and Science University (MSU) has just celebrated Chinese New Year 2019. Organized by the university's Chinese Culture Society (CCS), the afternoon celebration kicked off with the traditional lion dance.


 

 

 

And the tossing of Yee Sang (Yuu Sahng, Yusheng, or Prosperity Toss) ensued with the launch of the event gimmick. Yee Sang is a celebrated cultural appetizer dish that has since 2009 been listed by Malaysia’s National Heritage Department as one of the country’s national heritage, sitting at number 60 just below another national favourite, satay.

MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato' Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, stressed the importance of inter-cultural learning.

"Cultural appreciation is an important learning experience because inter-cultural competency is important to global employability. A commitment to it as one of the main learning experiences contributing to holistic personal development at MSU is our way forward to instilling cultural competency in our students."






The afternoon festivities of the MSU Chinese New Year 2019 celebration continued with performances of Chinese orchestra and Chinese yo-yo by MSUrians, as well as dancing and singing by members of MSU's Performing Arts Club (PACC) and De' Voice Choir Club.

Prizes were presented to winners of competitions that were held the day before. 
The Chinese calligraphy prizes went to Tee Chin Sheng, Elyas Redzuan Goh, and Miftahul Jannah Joel, respectively for first, second, and third place. For the Station Game competition, Tee Chin Seng, Muhammad Hakim Yahya, and Muhammad Alif Shazwan Safari were respectively the first-, the second-, and the third-place winners. The top three winners in Blowing Blossom were Miftahul Jannah Joel in first place, Nurul Nasrin Mohd Nizam in second place, and Intan Syahidah Saifon in third place.
