Management and Science University (MSU) continues its heritage conservation through its flagship event, the ever-monumental MSU International Songket Run (ISR) 2024. The fourth edition of the IRS had the largest turnout, with over 6,000 participants. 

On October 19, the Students and Career Development (SCD) Department of MSU, in collaboration with Jabatan Warisan Negara, Kementerian Perlancongan & Kebudayaan spearheaded the fun run themed ‘Eminent of Songket’. This edition also introduced the first competitive 10 km run.

 

 

The annual MSU ISR series aims to increase awareness of the importance of Songket, a heritage that should be treasured and preserved, extending beyond clothing, culture, and craftsmanship.

The fourth instalment of the MSU IRS brought together students, staff, and alumni of the University, as well as members of the public, including adults of all ages, school students, children, and people with disabilities. The programme aligned with and resounded on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

 

 

 

MSU had the largest crowd, with over 4,000 students and 800 staff members. There was also a significant public presence, including over 1,000 adults and 100 children.

 

 

Her Royal Highness Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, the Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, graced the flag-off of the 5km fun run.

 

 

Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, the President of MSU, officiated the 10 km competitive run.

The winners of the 10 km competitive run took home Todak merchandise and cash prizes. Mohd Syahidan Alis, Yayasan MSU scholar of Physical Education and Health at the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS), emerged the winner for the Man Open Category, clocking 38 minutes and 48 seconds. Zaiyusri Zainon (runner-up) and Muhammad Daniel Haqim Fadzli (second runner-up) completed their run in 39 minutes 41 seconds and 41 minutes 24 seconds, respectively.

 

 

 

Iris Alanna Jansen Muhammad Kelvin Jansen clinched first place for the Women Open Category, clocking 51 minutes 43 seconds. Kothanaayagi Sivakumar emerged the runner-up, marking 56 minutes 37 seconds. Recording 1 hour 4 minutes 2 seconds, Cassandra Alicia Quraini won third place for the category.

 

 

 

Participants under the Men and Women Veteran Categories achieved impressive records.

Che Samsuddin Che Amin bagged the first prize for Men Veteran by completing the run in 58 minutes 10 seconds, who was closely followed by Muhammad Izuan Idris in 58 minutes 22 seconds. Mohd Fazir Zainal Abidin secured the third place in 1 hour 3 minutes 52 seconds.

Clocking 48 minutes 52 seconds, Sea Hui Thin reached the finishing line first for Women Veteran. With 50 minutes 50 seconds, Alicia Toh Chia Yin took home the second prize. Recording 56 minutes 42 seconds was Jacklyn Sabastian.

Two-year-old Adelia Azzahra Muhammad Hairi was the youngest participant in the IRS 4.0, while the most senior participant was 79-year-old Zahari Mohamed.

 

 

The Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) had the highest number of participants from MSU. Meanwhile, Persatuan Wanita Padang Jawa was acknowledged for having the largest group of participants from the public.

Anita Mat Tahir and Khalif Zakwan received rewards for their efforts in creatively embellishing Songket and finishing their run in the costume. 

The Song-Cat Show & Pet Exhibition was a new addition to ISR 4.0. Cats adorned with a hint of Songket, as well as other pets, were displayed at the exhibition. Prizes were awarded for the Best Songket Outfit and the Most Decorative Cage.

 

 

 

 

In addition, the MSU ISR 4.0 also featured involvement from students at SMK Bandar Baru Sultan Suleiman, Santai Runner from Singapore, and Persatuan Pemulihan Orang-Orang Cacat Selangor, resounding inclusivity promoted by the University. 

MSU International Songket Run 2018 made the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) with “The Largest Number of People (4,878) Wearing or Having Songket Elements as Part of Their Dressing’ and MSU International Songket Run of 2019 with ‘The Largest Participation (4,868) in a Songket Running Event’.
