By its appearance indicating the presence of light, white increases feelings of wellbeing. Whilst the colour is psychologically associated with innocence and purity as well as timelessness, it also symbolizes beginnings. Management and Science University (MSU) gears up for the next new intake by painting the campus sustainably white.

Seemingly devoid of colour, white in fact has bluish, reddish, yellowish, and even greenish undertones. Most white paints fall into three categories: warm-toned, which is not too bright or sterile; cool-toned, which adds dimension; and gallery white – the purest among shades of white, whose categorizing is owed to a dominant use in art galleries.

White in architecture has other practical benefits related to climate and energy control. Scientists have shown that homes with white external walls trap less heat than dark walls do, reducing demands on air-conditioning. For making global impact to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), among them environmental sustainability, MSU currently ranks at Malaysia Top 10 and World Top 301+ on the Times Higher Education (Times HigherEd) University Impact Rankings.

Physically, white is not considered a colour but only because it does not have a specific wavelength. It instead contains, at equal intensities, all the wavelengths of visible light. On the wall, what sort of light your room gets and which side of the world you live in affect how white paint appears to the eye. The difference is most distinguished by north-facing versus west-facing. The compass directions distinguish the MSU campus landscape.

Given that most of the world’s rivers flow to the south, the campus grounds comprising three major buildings spanning half a kilometre alongside Sungai Damansara looks like a ship sailing northward. Rivers flow mostly to the south because their sources (usually in the mountains) are north of the river mouth. Rivers that flow in reverse, downhill to the north instead, have sources that are south of the mouth. Malaysia’s Titiwangsa Range, that mountain-chain spanning nearly five hundred kilometres north-to-south and dividing Peninsular Malaysia into regions of east and west coasts, is to the east of the MSU campus.

And within the Titiwangsa’s horizon, setting sail towards a better, more sustainable future for all in Shah Alam Section 13 is the MSU ship; led at the bow by the Management Tower, with the Damansara River flowing on the starboard side, the campus main entrance receiving all seekers of knowledge onboard at the port side, and the Science Tower with its schools and faculties following at the stern.

Every February, July, and September, the University welcomes new students to over a hundred and seventy programmes of study ranging from Undergraduate Foundation, Diploma, and Bachelor, to Postgraduate Master’s and PhD.

And whilst the School of Pharmacy (SPH) admits only a hundred students into MSU’s Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) programme every September, there is no quota limit for places on the Traditional Chinese Medicine degree and diploma programmes either in September or in February.

An annual quota limit of forty students apply across the three intakes of February, July, and September for MSU’s Bachelor of Optometry (Hons) programme.

Three other quota-limited programmes admit new students only in February and July; Diploma in Medical Assistant, Bachelor in Nursing (Hons), and Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology (Hons).

Management and Science University (MSU) receives a combined total of two hundred students annually across its October and April intakes for the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme at the Shah Alam campus of the MSU International Medical School (IMS).
