Management and Science University (MSU) bagged a total of thirteen awards and eleven medals including six gold at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2020.

 

Comprising two Best and Special Awards, three Social Innovation Asia Awards, and eight Invention and Innovation Awards, the win brought in six more gold, three silver, and two bronze medals to MSU.

 

 

International Medical School (IMS), Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS), and Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE) contributed a gold each through the MTE2020 Social Innovation Asia Awards. FISE contributed both of the Best and Special Awards as well as four out of the six gold medals to MSU. Two projects in MSU's key research area of 21st-century education bagged the MTE2020 Invention and Innovation Awards.

 

 

Future Vision’ from FISE received the Croatian Inventors Network Special Award besides the MTE2020 Invention and Innovation Awards gold medal in the Social Innovation and Entrepreneur Management category. Development of the smart, affordable technology for the blind or visually impaired is led by Dr Safaa Najah Saud Al-Humairi, in a collaboration between FISE, MSU Eye Centre, MSU Foundation, and industry collaborator Cytron. The MSU team includes Dr Lilysuriazna Raya and Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Irsyad Abdullah from FISE, Associate Professor Dr Mohd Zaki Awg Isa and Dr Arun Kumar Tarofder from MSU Eye Centre, and Nor Fazlina Mohd Lazim from MSU Foundation.

 

Another special awards winner from FISE is ‘Implementation of a Learning Assistant Tool for Aircraft Maintenance using Mixed Reality in Mobile Devices’. Winning the categorical best for Audio Visual, Optics and Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI), it also received a gold medal in the same category of the Invention and Innovation Awards. The FISE collaboration with MSU Centre of Excellence ITIC and industry collaborator SIR Ventures is led by Safinaz Mustapha with team members Dr Rusyaizila Ramli, Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Irsyad Abdullah, and student Cyprian Aidan Chong.

 

 

Two more gold medals through FISE were contributed by ‘MSU MySolar’ and ‘A Multiplex Software Solution for Imaging Identification in Real-Time Surveillance Applications'.

 

‘MSU MySolar’ is a Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) for Sustainable Energy, another key research area of Management and Science University (MSU). Winning the gold in the MTE2020 Housing category of the Social Innovation Asia Awards and a bronze in the Agriculture, Livestock and Horticulture, Aqua Cultures and Fisheries category of the MTE2020 Invention and Innovation Awards, the Solar Power and IOT Watering System for Smart Home project is led by Dr Norazliani Md Sapari with team members Associate Professor Dr Irsyad Abdullah, Mohammad Ali Tofigh, Arshad Jamal, and Bachelor in Computer Forensic (Honours) student Jeschinta Ramish, as well as  industry collaborator Suncrox Solar.

 

 

The multiplex software solution clinching the gold medal in the ICT category of MTE2020’s Invention and Innovation Awards is a collaborative project between FISE and MSU Centre of Excellence for Cyber Security and Big Data. The project is led by Dr Husniza Razalli with team members Safwati Semaail, Associate Professor Dr Mohammed Hazim Ameen Al-Kawaz, Dr Omar Ismael Ibrahim, and Bachelor in Computer Forensic (Honours) students Nur Syafinaz Shawal and Muhammad Faris Aiman Md Suhaimi.

Clinching both the Social Innovation Asia Awards gold in the Environment category and the Invention and Innovation Awards silver in the Protection of the Environment, Energy, Water, Wastewater, Sanitation, and Green Technology category of MTE2020 is ‘MSU MyCoral’ by IMS. The project is led by Mohd Hairulnizam Ibrahim with team members Associate Professor Dr Indang Ariati Ariffin, Master in Science (by Research) Biomedicine student Azral Ismawy, and industry collaborator Dorken Reef Resources.  

 

‘Blindness Prevention’ by FHLS is another KTP project that won MSU an MTE2020 Social Innovation Asia Award. Supported by MSU Foundation as well as industry collaborators MSU Eye Centre and MSU Medical Centre (MSUMC), the MSU Assessment Ruler for Orang Asli Sight Testing not only received a gold medal in the Health category of the Social Innovation Asia Awards but also a silver in the Industrial and Product Design, Web Interface Design and Printing Technology category of the Invention and Innovation Awards. The team is led by Associate Professor Dr Mohd Zaki Awg Isa with members Fairuz Nordin and Master in Science (by Research) Biomedicine students Mohamad Khamal Haqqim A. Rahim and Nur Alya Aisyah Rahmat.

 

The third silver to MSU from MTE2020 was contributed by ‘D-Tash Spray’, a novel solution helping sufferers to overcome their morphine cravings. A collaboration between MSU International Medical School (IMS) and MSU Medical Centre (MSUMC) with industry collaborators Malaysia Genome Institute and SIRIM Berhad, the project is led by Dr Mohamad Halim Mohamad Shariff with Dr Siti Hajar Adam, Associate Professor Dr Indang Ariati Ariffin, Dr Mohd Ridzuan Pauzi, and Master in Science (by Research) Biomedicine student Deborah Anna van Oosterhout.

 

3D Printing of Rat Model Embedded with Augmented Reality and Musculoskeletal System as Teaching and Learning Tools’ by MSU’s Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) and School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) bagged a bronze in the Education Technology and Pedagogy category of the MTE2020 Invention and Innovation Awards. Led by Santhra Segaran with Azrina Zainal Abidin and students Sitell Maya and Nur Farrah Fatheen, the project’s industry collaborators comprise Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) researchers Rahmita Wirza O.K. Rahmat, Khairul Azanni Amran, and Hasnah Bahari, as well as Fumo Solutions Sdn Bhd representative Muhammad Fuad.
