Management and Science University (MSU) has held the fifth in an annual series of the MSU Fashion Week.

Organized by MSU’s School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA), MSU Fashion Week 2022 also celebrated 5 years of partnership between Management and Science University and UEDA College of Fashion, Osaka, Japan.

In attendance, received by MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid and MSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, were the Embassy of Japan First Secretary and Director of Japan Information Service Ms Nagai Tomoko, UEDA President Mr Hitoshi Tajima, Mrs Hiroko Tajima, and an Embassy of Japan Public Relations Specialist.

Describing the fashion occasion as ‘a bright scene’ was UEDA President Mr Hitoshi Tajima, who appreciated the intercultural internationality of the designs by MSU’s students of Bachelor in Fashion Design with Marketing (Hons) and Diploma in Fashion Design.

“Cross-cultural education tends to begin with a comparison against one's own culture and ends up with discovering differences. This spirited, courageous, intelligent action of embracing other cultures and customs, reflected in a combo of cool smiles and sparkling eyes of its students, open and friendly, is the crown jewel of Management and Science University.”

The UEDA College of Fashion president comes to lecture at Management and Science University (MSU) every now and then as a Visiting Professor. The teaching methods may differ and cause confusion, he said, but such confusion is the first step to success.

“Through classes and lectures held here and as a learning achievement, Management Science University students participate in the UEDA Collection mainly organized by UEDAs’s graduate students every year; we have them take part in the runway show and exhibit in the hall together.”

Exchange students from both sides will be able to learn about the other’s cultures and customs at one another's grounds, he continued; to feel the local fashion climate firsthand, and further refine their own designs. The results will be presented in the UEDA Collection, and re-expressed at Management Science University (MSU).

“We compete for expressiveness on the same stage. Naturally, there will be stimuli, which comes alive in the next year's collection.”

MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid described the longstanding collaboration between Management and Science University (MSU) and UEDA College of Fashion as a contribution to the country’s fashion industry; whilst raising the presence of both schools as top educational institutions in Asia, it also further enhances the development of fashion education in the region.

Sixty-eight garments from forty collections by students of Bachelor in Fashion Design with Marketing (Hons) and Diploma in Fashion Design were sashayed down the runway at MSU Chancellor Hall in Shah Alam Section 13 in the morning event last Wednesday.

The collections proved why Management and Science University (MSU) is Number 1 for Art and Design in Malaysia on the QS World University Rankings.
