Management and Science University (MSU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Friends of Rivers Malaysia (FoRM).

The collaboration seeks to contribute to fulfilling UN Sustainable Development Goals through River of Life activities aimed at uplifting and upgrading the Damansara River stretch behind MSU’s main campus in Shah Alam.

“Life revolves around water, and rivers are essential for life,” said MSU President, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid. “The same way community work has been for us in the past 39 years, environmental sustainability is no rhetoric at MSU but one of our pillars. We feel the importance of community engagement and being part of the UNSDG movement. We embrace Goals 1 to 17 as our DNA. From our award-winning MyCoral in Terengganu to MyMountain right here in Selangor, environmental sustainability and community work are part and parcel of the University; building character, competitiveness, and concern in our students.”

FoRM founder Professor Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang espouses that an action-oriented working framework is needed for our river ecosystem. The environmental engineer and scientist who had served as Secretary General in the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) went on to present ‘Public Participation Framework towards River Economy’ on stage at the MSU Performing Arts Theatre.

Also present was Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs Professor Dato’ Ir Dr Othman A. Karim.
