Management and Science University (MSU) through its charitable arm MSU Foundation collaborated with Affin Bank Berhad to bring MSU Zakat Distribution 2021 this Ramadan.

 

Receiving Affin Bank MSU Branch Manager Mr Muhamad Fadhlan Zainuddin to the SOP-compliant ceremony held on campus at the Chancellor Hall in Shah Alam Section 13 was MSU President and MSU Foundation Chairman Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.

 

Said Professor Tan Sri Dr Shukri in his opening address to the 782 recipients of this year’s zakat from Management and Science University, “COVID-19 should not be a hindrance to learning, yet safety remains first priority at MSU on top of our teaching and your learning. Learn to protect yourself, learn to survive.”

 

 

The MSU President went on to advise a going beyond being recipients. He urged an understanding of the importance to be giving and grateful in enabling equal access to learning and equal chance for success.

 

“Build your empathy, and become better leaders,“ said Professor Tan Sri Dr Shukri.

 

Also present were MSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Junainah Abd Hamid and MSU Senior Vice-President for Endowment and Communication Dato’ Rosli Yusof.

 

 

Three categories of zakat were presented, with one from MSU to offset tuition fees and another to help with Aidilfitri preparations. Thirty-two students received the Zakat Yuran for the fees and a hundred the Zakat Affin presented by the MSU Branch of Affin Bank Berhad. Six hundred and fifty received the Zakat Raya for Aidillfitri. The Faculty of Business Management and Professional Studies (FBMP) and the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) presented the highest number of recipients, respectively with 162 and 154; followed by the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) with 94, the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE) with 83, and the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) with 64. Thirty seven recipients were presented by the School of Pharmacy (SPH), thirty-six by MSU College, and twenty by the International Medical School (IMS).  

 

Also receiving the MSU Zakat 2021 were 1,113 recipients from 39 schools.

 

MSU Zakat Distribution 2021, delivering the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 for Quality Education, 10 for Reduced Inequalities, 16 for Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and 17 for Partnerships for the Goals, was jointly organized by the Accounts and Finance Department, MSU Foundation, and the Student and Career Development (SCD) Department.

 

Management and Science University (MSU) is the first university in Malaysia to have been internationally recognized as inclusive excellent. Ranking in seven out of the seventeen UNSDGs, MSU is currently Top 10 in Malaysia on the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2020.
