Management and Science University (MSU) School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) presented the collections of twelve final-year Bachelor in Fashion Design with Marketing (Hons) students in an Interfusion Fashion Show at the start of June.
Held at the Gemilang Runway on campus in Shah Alam Section 13, the SHCA Interfusion Fashion Show based its collections on six Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
Designing in the spirit of SDG 3 for Good Health and Wellbeing is Zahirah Zulkhairi, with her inspired take on Bat & Corset.
Designing for Gender Equality (SDG 5) are Siti Nur Amalina Ahmad, with her inspiration Wearable Transforming Costume; and Nur Athirah Zahra Zakaria, with her inspiration Chess.
For Industry, Innovation, Infrastructure (SDG 9) is Nur Nutailah Zamri, with her inspiration Harajuku Streetwear.
Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11) had Abdullah Iqbal Zulkafli inspired by British designer Alexander McQueen; Ian Syafiq Muhamad Azri, with his collection Fritilldea x Ian Syafiq, by Local Street Art; Lavanya Erajan, who designed the two dresses donned by MSU visiting professor Masue Kato at the METFEST Sounds of Malaysia concert last May, by Malay Traditional Wedding Dress; Ronald Henry Juak, by Iban Tribe; and Siti Fatema Habeeb Sheman, by Jaipur Motive x Indo Western.
SDG 12 for Responsible Consumption and Production had Nurfarihah Aqila Azhar inspired by Corals and Amira Dayana Faizah Azlan by The Birth of Gaia.
Designing for the Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions of SDG 16 is Nur Iliyana Abdullah, with her inspiration Dune (2021).
The Best Collection 2023 prize went to Nur Athirah Zahra Zakaria for her Gender Equality collection, Chess. Abdullah Iqbal Zulkafli bagged the Best Emerging Design prize, whilst Amira Dayana Faizah Azlan won for Best Coordination. A special award from Hazara Boutique for the Final Year Project 2023 went to Zahirah Zulkhairi. Lavanya Erajan with MH370 and Hannan Sofea Zainul Azhar with Jester respectively won for Best Menswear and Best Womenswear.
A total of 29 designers including students from the Diploma in Fashion Design programme took part in the School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) Interfusion Fashion Show at Management and Science University (MSU).
Among the models was a SHCA-amateur-alumna-turned-pro from the Bachelor in Hospitality and Tourism Management (Hons) programme.
