Heritage, both tangible and intangible, natural or cultural, characterizes identity. Recognized for its value across history, society, and anthropology, it is considered an enabler of sustainable development; appearing most prominently in Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities, and more implicitly in SDGs 4 (Education), 8 (Work and Economic Growth), and 12 (Consumption and Production). Management and Science University (MSU) takes up the challenge of conserving the non-renewable resource for current and future generations.
In conjunction with the MSU International Cultural Festival 2022, the University through its School of Hospitality and Creative Arts (SHCA) and Centre for Fundamental Studies (CFS), presented a Showcase of Talents and Performing Arts (STePs).
Held at U-Plaza just beside the MSU Islamic Cultural Centre (ICC), STePs opened with a performance of the Malay martial art Silat.
Next up was an Uzbek Warrior Dance – which historically had been created during World War 2 – and duets retelling Uzbek folklore.
A gendang performance by SHCA students ensued, followed by MSU Clubs and Associations performances.
A fusion of Malaysian and Uzbek dances, performed in each other’s traditional costumes by the Uzbekistan dance group, made the finale.
Prizes were given away for prior Malay Warriors Poster competitions. In first place for Malaysian Studies 1 is Wan Amirul Adam Wan Helmi with Rentap, followed by Lakshae Jaya Sangkar with Dato’ Maharajalela in second place, and Navean Nair Kumaran with Tok Janggut in third place. Malaysian Studies 2 presented Syahira Mohd Abdul Nasir with Tok Gajah in first place, Ranesh Kumar Muniandy with Hj Abdul Rahman Limbong in second place, and Ng Xin Yi with Tg Kudin in third place.
The afternoon show concluded with a flashmob fusion of Malaysian and Uzbek dances.
